Cruise Line Sponsored Theme Cruises are open and available to every one who books on that cruise. The Cruise Line Theme Cruise allows you to participate in the activities, to whatever extent you may like, or not at all. There is usually no extra charge to book this type of cruise. Themes of this type may be of a music variety such as a Big Band Cruise with music from the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s or a Latin beat theme, with famous contemporary bands. These music themes and performances are in addition to the normal entertainment provided by the cruise line. Other cruise line sponsored theme cruises may be a Chess cruise, Mah Jong, Scrabble, Bridge, and other card games, Baseball and Football Greats, Various Hobbies, Wellness, Dance, Cultural, Ball Room Dancing, Singles, Astronomy, Bloggers, and Cuisine – Food Network. Theme cruises may include special guest speakers such as Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Ted Koppel, Robert F. Kennedy Jr, and other high profile experts in culture, current events, science, etc.

The Chartered Theme Cruise may include all that a Cruise line theme cruise has to offer, except for one big difference; A premium will be charged in addition to the regular cruise fare to enjoy the amenities provided by the theme organization. A prime example of this type of theme cruise would be the Jazz Cruise. 100% of the entertainment in every entertainment location on board the ship is dedicated to Jazz, even the piped in music. Artist and vocalists are brought in special, and the ship’s regular entertainment would not perform on this cruise.

Other types of this theme cruise may include special interests groups such as: Harley Davidson Motor Cycles, Eclipse of the Sun cruises, Gay and Lesbian cruises, and Country Music to name a few. In 2012, there will be at least two Titanic theme cruises that will honor that legendary cruise. They will leave England on the same date as the ill-fated Titanic, sail the same route, arrive at the same spot where she sank, and then proceed on to New York.

Group Sponsored Theme Cruises are available only to those who book into the theme group. A premium is usually added to the price of the cruise by the theme group and will include all the amenities and events the group wishes to provide. Passengers who do not book into the theme group, even if they are on the same cruise, will not be allowed to participate and enjoy the amenities of the theme group. These themes may be, Poker, Bridge, Quilting, Veterans and WWII, Red Hats, and, Community Groups, Golf, History, Science, and the list is only limited to your interests and imagination.

Another type of theme group is the Corporate Group that may hold their annual meetings on a cruise ship. It should be noted that most cruise lines will provide meeting space or facilities for your group at no extra charge. This is a big time perk for theme groups.
